BeachPatrol 3207 Clean Up Sunday 3 March 9am

 Message from BeachPatrol 3207 team

Next Group Clean - Clean Up Oz Day - Sunday 3 March 9 am

For the third year running our group clean will be Sunday to coincide with the great Annual event of

Clean Up Australia Day

Our plan is to have two groups - one starting at Port Melbourne beach (opposite the London Hotel) - which will head east past the PMYC.

And another group starting at the eastern end at the beach opposite Victoria Street  - and walking west up towards Port Melbourne.
Hopefully we'll meet in the middle!

Feel free to join either group at one of the starting points.

Don’t worry - coffee and chat as usual together
J - where we meet at the Sicilian Kiosk at the Port Melbourne Life Saving Club (Italians make good coffee!).
cheers

Our next event is not far away already.

As we did Sandridge last time - lets move to;

First Point for the next group clean on Sat 9 Feb.
Please meet at Princes Pier at 9am.

Bags will be provided as usual but please return them when you are done so we don't lose them.

Then meet at the Tram Terminus for a coffee and a chat afterwards.

For those that have not seen it yet we are migrating to an umbrella website for all the BeachPatrol groups.  Please see www.beachpatrol.com.au  This is just a temporary page till we get the more complete one set up, but we need to get the other new groups set up with an email address and contact details.

We have two new groups starting up this month or maybe next.
  • 3182Beachpatrol in St Kilda
  • 3186Beachpatrol in Brighton.

We wish them well and to find lots of volunteers down there.

Garden City Reserve - Port Melbourne Primary School

Garden City Reserve
Port Melbourne Primary School

This is a letter provided by the City of Port Phillip for circulation to residents.

Tuesday 29th January 2013

Dear Resident

Re: Use of Garden City Reserve by Port Melbourne Primary School

As you are aware, Council have been approached by the Port Melbourne Primary School with a proposal to use a section of Garden City Reserve at lunch times for their grades 4, 5 and 6 children.  The purpose of this letter is to inform local residents and park users of the outcome of this request.

A community meeting was held at the Sandridge Trugo Club building in Garden City Reserve on Thursday 17 January at 6pm to provide residents abutting the Reserve and general park user the opportunity to speak directly to Council Officers on this issue.

From that meeting Council Officers have investigated several issues raised by residents in attendance and by email including the current condition of the grass and tress at the Reserve, Covenants associated with parcels of land within the Reserve and the lack of appropriate opportunities for the local community to comment on the schools proposal.

The outcome of Council’s investigations is that the school will be offered a one school term trial period for use of the reserveso that the real impacts of the use are known, with residents, park users and the school given the opportunity to provide feedback to Council prior to any further arrangement being considered.

Due to resident concerns of poor grass coverage of the central area of the Reserve, the school will be limited to the grassed area adjacent at the western end of the park near the Beacon (see attached map), on school days from 1.45pm – 2.25pm for the trial period.

Throughout the trial period Council officers will evaluate the use by the school and any impacts the use has on other park users.  This will also be an opportunity for park users to discuss any issues they may have with the Reserve with staff.  Council will also liaise with and inform the Beacon Cove Neighbourhood Association and Port People to ensure adequate opportunities for local residents to be kept informed and provide feedback.

The community will have the opportunity to provide comments throughout the trial period via email to the Sport and Recreation team – helpsportandrec@portphillip.vic.gov.au or phone 9209 6777.   A formal community consultation will commence three weeks (11th march 2013) prior to the trial period ending with the opportunity for the local community to provide feedback on the school use of the reserve.

Kind regards

Invitation to celebrate with Hobsons Bay Obedience Dog Club

Hobsons Bay Obedience Dog Club is moving house!

Hobsons Bay Obedience Dog Club Inc. is a not-for-profit dog obedience and socialisation club.  The club is run entirely by volunteers.  Our charter is to provide affordable dog training classes, in an enjoyable and safe environment, and to be accessible and affordable to all members of our community.

After 51 years located at Murphy Reserve Port Melbourne, we are excited to announce that we are moving to a new facility at Garden City Reserve adjacent to Sandridge Community Centre.

Thanks to the wonderful efforts of the City of Port Phillip, we now have a purpose-built club room from which we can continue to serve our community.

Our regular dog training year will start on Sunday 3rd February 2013.

However to celebrate this great news, and to thank you for your support during this long journey, we would like to invite you to a celebration and official opening of our new club room on Sunday 24th February, at 11am.

You are invited to come and enjoy our informal BBQ, and help us to celebrate this new chapter in our long history.

Please RSVP by 12th February 2013, by return email - jwilson@pauljohn.com.au
