Ferry Service from Beacon Cove to Continue
The St Kilda Ferry Service has decided to continue the service from Beacon Cove to Williamstown and St. Kilda. Apparently there was a pleasing response to the trial we highlighted that ran in early April.
The service departs from the wharf adjacent to Mr Hobson restaurant. Departure times are currently 11:30am, 1:30pm, 3:30pm, and 5:30pm to Williamstown and 10:25am, 12:25pm, 2:25pm, and 4:25pm to St Kilda. The full timetable can be found here.
Prices can be found here. Our Honorary Secretary has checked with the operator about the price for Seniors and confirmed they travel at the concession rate. For example, a return journey from Beacon Cove to Williamstown for a senior would cost $15 per person.
If the weather is poor, potential passengers should ring 0412 320 315 or check the website to establish whether the ferry is operating.

City of Port Phillip Council Plan and Budget Drop-in Sessions
The City of Port Phillip (CoPP) is holding drop-in sessions so that residents can find out more about the revised Council Plan 2017-27, the draft Budget 2018/19, and the draft Sustainable Environment, and Creative and Prosperous City strategies. More details about these plans are available here.
A drop-in session will be held in Port Melbourne at the Town Hall Auditorium, 333 Bay Street, Port Melbourne on Tuesday 8 May, 5pm to 7:30pm.
In addition to the drop-in sessions, they have a survey so you can provide feedback on the proposed amendments to the Council Plan 2017-27 and draft strategies. Swallow Street to Promenade Pedestrian Ramp Upgrade
The City of Port Phillip (CoPP) will be upgrading the pedestrian ramp from the Promenade to Swallow Street. The work includes installation of a wider ramp, levelling and resurfacing of pavement leading to the stairs and reinstatement of adjoining garden beds. A temporary compound for bins will be required which will occupy 3 car spaces in the ‘Loading Zone 8 am to 4 pm Tuesday to Friday’ area at the end of Swallow Street.

Panel Hearings on Fishermans Bend
Planning Panels Victoria is conducting hearings on the proposed Amendment to the Port Phillip Planning Scheme for Fishermans Bend. The BCNA’s views were part of a presentation presented by Rowan Groves, President of Port People, on behalf of South Port Urban Responsible Renewal (SPURR). SPURR represents 49 community groups in the South Melbourne, Port Melbourne and nearby areas.
The SPURR presentation assessed the adequacy of the proposed Amendment to achieve the Government’s Vision for the area and the objectives for the Amendment. The BCNA and SPURR have consistently argued that the project requires better governance and an agreed budget if the Vision is to be realized. The presentation explained that it is premature to develop the Amendment until all planning for the area has been completed and can be accessed here.

Trial Ferry Service from Beacon Cove
Some of you may already know (we only just found out) but the St Kilda Ferry Service has commenced a trial ferry service that calls at Beacon Cove. The trial runs until Sunday 15th April.
The service departs from the wharf adjacent to the Mr Hobson restaurant and goes to Williamstown and St. Kilda. It can accommodate about 25 passengers per trip.
More details, including timetable and prices can be found on their website. The pricing is not altogether clear but one of our members recently had a return trip to Williamstown for $15 (senior/concession).

BCNA Budget Submission to City of Port Phillip
Each year the BCNA makes a submission to the City of Port Phillip (CoPP) for their consideration in developing the Council’s budget for the upcoming budget year.
In recent years the BCNA has been successful in advocating proposals for work on improved lighting on the bike trail and for improved safety features on the Promenade during 2017. In 2018/19 our submission includes a traffic management study for the Beacon Cove area; possible improvements to the community bus service between Port Melbourne and St Kilda, improved signage near the Princes Street drain to alert beach users to the unsafe water, and continued efforts to manage and prevent graffiti. Rejection of Development at 10 Narooma Place
The City of Port Phillip (CoPP) has refused a planning application (773/2017) to demolish a garage and erect a three-storey dwelling as this would create a housing pattern out of character with the area. The homes in this area are predominantly two-storey. Also, the scale, bulk and massing of the development would not be in character. Local residents and BCNA opposed the development - the BCNA submission can be downloaded here.

Community Forum for Fishermans Bend Development - Tuesday 20 March
For those that are interested, a community forum on the Fishermans Bend Urban Renewal Area (FBURA) is going to be held on Tuesday 20 March at 6:15pm.
This is a timely opportunity to hear from the current batch of politicians about what’s in store for us over the next few years. We are also in the middle of a Planning Panel Review on the Government’s Draft Strategic Framework for FBURA.
Entry is free, and there is no need for registration – although you may want to get there early to guarantee a seat. More details are on a flyer which can be downloaded here.
